The original version of infographic below (the original is by Anuschka Rees) attempts to guide us toward more ethical closets — that is, more ethical clothes purchases. Oddly absent are many of the ethical factors critics often put forward with regard to ethical shopping, such as buying fair trade garments, buying locally, or avoiding high-pesticide crops or child labour. Of Rees’s 5 points, 4 of them are essentially boil down to “buy less.”
We’ve taken the liberty of annotating the original, and the result is below. The original is well-intentioned; our goal here is not to be nay-sayers, but to point out the complexity of the issue. Click on the image to see it full-sized.
